Database and server file disclosure via EXPLAIN errors
Published Jan 5, 2023 · Updated Apr 7, 2025
Information disclosure in PgHero before 3.1.0 allows remote attackers to extract database data through crafted EXPLAIN queries. PgHero's EXPLAIN functionality passes crafted queries to PostgreSQL and exposes query results embedded in resulting error messages. Database-user privileges bound the consequence: ordinary roles expose database data, while superuser roles also permit server-file reads.
