CVE-2023-22616Public exploit

SMRAM corruption via unchecked save-state pointer

Published Apr 12, 2023 · Updated Feb 10, 2025

Memory corruption in Insyde InsydeH2O kernel 5.2 through 5.5 allows local users to corrupt SMRAM through the IHISI SMI interface. FbtsGetWholeBiosRomMap reads BiosRomMap from the RDI save-state register, then dereferences and copies through that unchecked pointer. A low-privileged caller able to invoke the SMI can redirect protected-mode reads and writes into private SMM memory, compromising firmware integrity.
