SMM memory corruption via malformed RCX pointer
Published Apr 11, 2023 · Updated Feb 11, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in IhisiServicesSmm in Insyde InsydeH2O kernel 5.0 through 5.5 allows local users to corrupt SMM memory. The SMI handler accepts a malformed pointer in RCX and writes through it even when the pointed range overlaps protected SMRAM. Low-privilege local code must invoke the handler; successful exploitation corrupts protected SMM state and disrupts firmware-controlled execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Published CVSS scores
CVSS describes severity. EPSS estimates exploitation probability.
Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
