CVE-2023-22612

SMM memory corruption via raced FTBS pointers

Published Apr 11, 2023 · Updated Feb 11, 2025

Memory corruption in InsydeH2O IhisiServicesSmm kernels 5.0 through 5.5 allows local users controlling the host OS to corrupt SMM memory. The FTBS AH=0x48 handler dereferences RSI-supplied ImageBlkPtr and ImageBlock pointers before validation, then reuses attacker-changeable ImageBlockSize in CopyMem. A compromised host OS and a won DMA race are required; successful exploitation yields an attacker-controlled write within SMM.
