CVE-2023-22377Network attack vector

Arbitrary file disclosure via XML external entity parsing

Published Feb 15, 2023 · Updated Mar 19, 2025

Improper restriction of XML external entity references in tsClinical Define.xml Generator 1.0.0 through 1.4.0 and Metadata Desktop Tools 1.0.3 through 1.1.0 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via crafted XML. The XML parser resolves attacker-supplied external entities instead of restricting them, enabling disclosure of files that meet the parser's access condition. Exploitation requires delivery of the malicious XML to the network-reachable parsing workflow; reported impact is confidentiality and integrity, with no availability impact.
