Administrator-level stored XSS via unescaped Slack Channel setting
Published Aug 16, 2023 · Updated Oct 8, 2024
Stored XSS in SEO ALert through 1.59 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through the Slack Channel setting. The plugin saves the setting without sanitizing it and renders the stored value without escaping, so an event-handler payload executes when the setting is saved or later viewed. Administrator privileges and a multisite installation or disabled unfiltered_html capability are required; injected scripts run in the browser of a user who opens the affected page.
