CVE-2023-22006Network attack vector

File overwrite via unvalidated download filename

Published Jul 18, 2023 · Updated May 28, 2026

Path traversal in Oracle Java SE 11.0.19, 17.0.7, and 20.0.1 allows remote attackers to overwrite files via crafted HTTP responses. The HTTP client's ResponseBodyHandlers.ofFileDownload method trusts the Content-Disposition filename when resolving the download path, allowing path segments to escape the intended directory. Exploitation requires user interaction and untrusted code in a sandboxed client deployment; typical server deployments that run only trusted code are unaffected.
