Data modification via Swing HTML object tags
Published Apr 18, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Improper input validation in Swing in Oracle Java SE 8u361, 8u361-perf, 11.0.18, 17.0.6, and 20 allows remote attackers to modify data. The Swing HTML renderer recognizes untrusted object tags and creates java.awt.Component subclasses while rendering text instead of rejecting those elements. Exploitation requires a sandboxed applet or Web Start application that runs untrusted code, or an application such as a web service that passes attacker-controlled data to Swing APIs.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
