CVE-2023-2190Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Private commit disclosure via unchecked compare fallback

Published Jul 13, 2023 · Updated Oct 30, 2024

Authorization bypass in affected GitLab CE/EE releases allows remote authenticated users to read new commits in private projects. Compare#target_project accepts the fork's default_merge_request_target when from_project_id is omitted, bypassing the read_code check before CompareService fetches upstream commits. Reachability requires a fork made while the upstream project was public; disclosure is limited to subsequent repository content.
