CVE-2023-2186Network attack vector

Memory disclosure and crashes via format-string broadcasts

Published Jun 7, 2023 · Updated Jan 6, 2025

Format-string injection in Triangle MicroWorks SCADA Data Gateway 5.01.03 allows remote attackers to read memory or crash Web Monitor. GTWWebMonitor.exe interprets format-string characters in crafted broadcast messages as formatting directives rather than literal data. Unauthenticated broadcasts can repeatedly crash the process, while authenticated access enables memory leakage that can contribute to a code-execution chain.
