Data modification via remote JAR soundbank loading
Published Jan 17, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Improper soundbank loading in affected Oracle Java SE and GraalVM releases allows remote attackers to modify accessible data via a remote URL. JARSoundbankReader accepts a soundbank URL and downloads its JAR without adequately verifying provenance, allowing attacker-controlled content to cross the Java sandbox boundary. Exploitation requires untrusted Java applet or Web Start code running under the sandbox; trusted-code server deployments are not affected, and the reported consequence is limited to unauthorized update, insertion, or deletion of accessible data.
