Code execution via crafted media integer overflow
Published Feb 14, 2023 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Integer overflow in Windows Media on affected Windows releases allows attackers to execute code by convincing a user to open a crafted file. Windows Media performs an overflowing integer calculation while parsing attacker-controlled media data; Microsoft has not disclosed the parser, field, or resulting memory operation. The file must be processed locally with user interaction, and successful exploitation runs code in the user's security context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
