Privilege escalation via virtualizable hive key deletion
Published Jan 10, 2023 · Updated Jan 1, 2025
Improper access control in the Microsoft Windows Kernel allows local users to elevate privileges through registry hive key deletion. The kernel permits deletion of keys in virtualizable registry hives when a handle has only KEY_READ and KEY_SET_VALUE rights. A low-privileged account with local code execution can delete protected keys, compromising system integrity and availability without disclosing data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
