Local kernel compromise via unchecked dma-buf cast
Published May 2, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Type confusion in Qualcomm Adreno KGSL Graphics allows local users to gain kernel memory access through a crafted file import. The kgsl_setup_dmabuf_useraddr function treats a file mapping's private_data pointer as a dma_buf without verifying its type, then passes the invalid object to dma_buf_attach. An unprivileged process with KGSL device access can trigger type-confused kernel field accesses, enabling kernel memory corruption and potential arbitrary kernel execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
