Weak passwords via incomplete profile form validation
Published Apr 18, 2023 · Updated Feb 5, 2025
Weak password enforcement in Modoboa before 2.1.0 allows remote authenticated users to assign an unsafe account password. ProfileForm.clean validates password strength only when both newpassword and confirmation are present, while save accepts a lone confirmation value and sets it as the password. An existing account session is required, and the resulting weak credential exposes that account to password guessing and unauthorized access.
