Privilege escalation via unauthorized SMB Witness RPC
Published Jan 10, 2023 · Updated Jan 1, 2025
Improper authorization in Microsoft Windows SMB Witness Service allows remote authenticated users to execute privileged RPC functions. The service accepts a crafted RPC request from a low-privilege account without enforcing the privilege restriction on the requested function. Network access and low-level authentication are required; successful exploitation grants access to server operations reserved for privileged accounts.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
