File and folder deletion via path traversal
Published Nov 21, 2023 · Updated Jun 11, 2025
Path traversal in AXIS OS 8.50 through 11.6 allows remote authenticated users to delete files or folders through a VAPIX API. The manageoverlayimage.cgi endpoint insufficiently restricts a supplied path before performing file or folder deletion. An operator- or administrator-privileged service account is required; operator accounts can delete only non-system files.
