Local privilege escalation via bound-service launch bypass
Published Oct 30, 2023 · Updated Aug 16, 2024
Elevation of privilege in Google Android 12, 12L, and 13 allows local users to launch background activities without user interaction. Six Framework service bind paths omit BIND_DENY_ACTIVITY_STARTS_PRE_34, so app-provided services inherit permission to start activities from the background. A locally installed app can trigger job, text-to-speech, sync, media-route, or print bindings and place an activity onscreen without user interaction.
