Installed-app disclosure via Overlay Manager side channel
Published Oct 30, 2023 · Updated Sep 6, 2024
Information disclosure in Android 14 Overlay Manager allows local users to determine whether an app is installed via a side channel. Overlay Manager exposes an observable response difference for package probes instead of enforcing the caller's app-query permission. A low-privileged local app can test installation state without user interaction; no data modification or service interruption is reported.
