Installed-app disclosure via unchecked sync authorities
Published Oct 30, 2023 · Updated Sep 6, 2024
Information disclosure in Android 14 ContentService allows local users to identify installed apps through sync-related APIs. ContentService omits calling-UID authority-access checks on sync APIs, allowing response differences to reveal whether a provider app is installed. An installed app with low privileges can perform the probe without package-query permission or user interaction; the disclosed fact is limited to app presence.
