Local app-presence disclosure via PackageManager side channel
Published Oct 30, 2023 · Updated Sep 6, 2024
Information disclosure in Google Android 14 PackageManager allows local users to determine whether another app is installed. PackageManager exposes an observable discrepancy when handling app-presence queries without the required query permission, creating a side channel. A malicious app needs only ordinary local execution and no user interaction to infer the presence of other installed apps.
