CVE-2023-21243

Local service interruption via unbounded Passpoint configuration growth

Published Jul 12, 2023 · Updated Nov 6, 2024

Buffer overflow in Android 11, 12, 12L, and 13 allows local users to interrupt service through an oversized Passpoint configuration. PasspointConfiguration.validateForCommonR1andR2 fails to bound ServiceFriendlyNames entries, allowing stored Wi-Fi configuration data to grow without limit. Exploitation requires user interaction but no additional execution privileges and is limited to availability loss.
