CVE-2023-21236

Local privilege escalation via unchecked service index

Published Jun 28, 2023 · Updated Dec 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in Google's aoc_core Android kernel driver allows local users with System privileges to elevate access. The aoc_service_set_read_blocked function in aoc.c passes the device service_index directly to set_bit for the fixed-size read_blocked_mask without validating that the index is in range. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges and no user interaction; an out-of-range index writes outside the mask and corrupts adjacent kernel memory during local privilege escalation.
