Local privilege escalation via unsafe PendingIntent
Published Aug 14, 2023 · Updated Oct 9, 2024
Privilege escalation in Google Android 11 and 13 allows local users to bypass background activity launch restrictions without interaction. ManagedServices.registerServiceLocked creates a settings PendingIntent without immutability or background-launch denial and passes it to a bound service. A low-privileged app can invoke that system-created intent to start a background activity, although published sources do not specify the resulting elevated actions.
