CVE-2023-21143

Local service interruption via oversized RemoteViews images

Published Jun 15, 2023 · Updated Dec 18, 2024

Improper input validation in Android 11, 12, 12L, and 13 allows local users to crash SystemUI with oversized RemoteViews images. AppWidgetHostView and NotificationContentView let canvas drawing exceptions from unsupported image dimensions escape instead of replacing or canceling the offending view. A locally installed app can trigger the crash without additional execution privileges or user interaction, making the device interface unusable.
