CVE-2023-2109Network attack vector

Browser script execution via unsanitized bubble text

Published Apr 17, 2023 · Updated Feb 5, 2025

DOM-based cross-site scripting in Chatwoot before 2.14.0 allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser via crafted bubble text. The setBubbleText function in app/javascript/sdk/bubbleHelpers.js assigns attacker-controlled bubbleText to innerHTML in the expanded widget instead of treating it as text. Exploitation requires a user to render the expanded chat widget, after which the script runs in the widget's browser context and can alter displayed content or access page-available data.
