Remote information disclosure via cell-broadcast bounds omission
Published Mar 24, 2023 · Updated Feb 21, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in Android kernel SMS handling allows remote attackers to disclose information through cell-broadcast processing. The sms_ExtractCbLanguage function in sms_CellBroadcast.c reads outside its intended buffer because it does not check bounds before accessing cell-broadcast language data. No execution privileges or user interaction are required; the documented consequence is information disclosure, not data modification or service interruption.
