Local privilege escalation via unchecked AVRCP array index
Published Mar 24, 2023 · Updated Feb 25, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in Android 11, 12, 12L, and 13 allows local users to escalate privileges through a Bluetooth AVRCP connection. The bta_av_rc_disc_done function in bta_av_act.cc uses an unchecked AVRCP return value as an array index, so an out-of-range value accesses memory beyond the array. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and no user interaction; resulting Bluetooth-stack memory corruption can grant higher privileges or crash the process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
