SMS disclosure via managed-profile READ_SMS grant
Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Jan 24, 2025
Information disclosure in Android 11 allows local users to read personal-profile SMS messages through a managed work profile. DevicePolicyManager permitted a managed profile owner to grant READ_SMS even though personal and work profiles share one telephony stack. Exploitation requires user-level execution and an existing managed work profile, but no user interaction; the consequence is SMS disclosure only.
