CVE-2023-20862Network attack vector

Post-logout session persistence via incomplete context cleanup

Published Apr 19, 2023 · Updated Feb 5, 2025

Incomplete logout cleanup in Spring Security allows remote authenticated users to retain a session after logout under affected configurations. HttpSessionSecurityContextRepository treats an empty SecurityContext as non-persistable, leaving serialized authentication state in the session. Exposure affects 5.7.0 through 5.7.7, 5.8.0 through 5.8.2, and 6.0.0 through 6.0.2 when the documented session, repository, or explicit-save conditions apply.
