Local privilege escalation via unchecked GPS write
Published Sep 4, 2023 · Updated Oct 10, 2024
Improper input validation in MediaTek GPS software for Android 12.0 and 13.0 allows local users to gain elevated execution. The GPS component fails to bounds-check input before writing it, producing an out-of-bounds memory write. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges and no user interaction; the resulting execution remains local to the device.
