CVE-2023-20828

System privilege escalation via GPS out-of-bounds write

Published Sep 4, 2023 · Updated Oct 10, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek GPS firmware on affected chipsets and Android 12.0 and 13.0 allows local users to gain System privileges. The GPS component writes beyond a buffer because it processes input without the required bounds check; MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function or input format. Exploitation requires local access and System execution privileges, requires no user interaction, and can elevate code within the device.
