Local privilege escalation via unchecked display read
Published Jul 4, 2023 · Updated Dec 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in the MediaTek display component on Android 12.0 and 13.0 allows local users to elevate privileges. A missing bounds check lets the component read beyond an allocated buffer, but MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function or input path. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges on a device with an affected MediaTek chipset and needs no user interaction.
