Improper locking in MediaTek VCU software on Android 12.0 and 13.0, Yocto 4.0, and Iot-Yocto 22.2 allows local users to elevate privileges. Improper locking leaves VCU shared state unsynchronized, allowing an out-of-bounds write during concurrent execution. Exploitation requires System execution privileges on an affected MediaTek chipset and no user interaction; the resulting memory corruption enables local privilege escalation.
