Local privilege escalation via improperly locked VCU write
Published Jun 6, 2023 · Updated Jan 7, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek VCU software for Android 12.0, 13.0, and Yocto 4.0 allows local users to escalate privileges. Improper locking in the VCU permits an out-of-bounds memory write when concurrent operations access shared state. Exploitation requires System execution privileges, needs no user interaction, and can elevate code locally within affected devices.
