Local privilege escalation via unchecked VCU write
Published Jun 6, 2023 · Updated Jan 8, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek VCU on Android 12.0, 13.0, Yocto 4.0, and Iot-Yocto 22.2 allows local users to gain privileges. The VCU component fails to check an input boundary before performing a write, allowing data to be written outside the intended buffer. Exploitation requires System execution privileges and no user interaction, and successful exploitation grants elevated local privileges.
