Local privilege escalation via out-of-bounds m4u write
Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Jan 24, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek m4u on Android 12.0 and 13.0 allows local users with System privileges to gain higher privilege. The m4u component fails to validate an input quantity before a write, allowing data to be written beyond the intended buffer. Exploitation requires local access and System execution privileges, needs no user interaction, and yields additional local privileges.
