Local privilege escalation via ISP buffer overwrite
Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Jan 24, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek ISP on Android 12.0, 13.0 and IoT-Yocto 22.2 allows local users to gain System privileges. The ISP component improperly validates local input before writing beyond a buffer boundary; MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function or input format. Exploitation requires System execution privileges, needs no user interaction, and can elevate code locally on one of six affected MediaTek chipsets.
