Local privilege escalation via WLAN integer overflow
Published Apr 6, 2023 · Updated Mar 17, 2025
Integer overflow in MediaTek WLAN software for affected chipsets allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges. The WLAN component performs an undisclosed integer calculation without preventing overflow, causing an out-of-bounds write. Successful exploitation requires existing System execution privileges on an affected Android, Yocto, or Linux device, needs no user interaction, and grants elevated local privileges.
