Local privilege escalation via unchecked RIL input
Published Mar 7, 2023 · Updated Mar 6, 2025
Improper input validation in MediaTek RIL on Android 12.0 and 13.0 allows local users to gain elevated privileges. The RIL component processes input without the required bounds check, permitting an out-of-bounds write; MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function or input path. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges and no user interaction; successful exploitation crosses an additional privilege boundary on the device.
