Local privilege escalation via incorrect VOW bounds check
Published Mar 7, 2023 · Updated Mar 6, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek VOW on Android 12.0 and 13.0 allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges. The VOW component applies an incorrect bounds check to an input buffer before copying it, allowing data to be written outside the intended bounds. The required starting condition is System execution privileges; user interaction is not required, and MediaTek does not identify the resulting higher privilege.
