CVE-2023-20587

Arbitrary code execution via SMM access-control failure

Published Feb 13, 2024 · Updated May 7, 2025

Improper access control in SMM in AMD processors allows local users to access SPI flash and execute arbitrary code. The public record identifies SMM as the locus but does not disclose the routine or authorization check that improperly permits SPI-flash access. Low privileges are required, and AMD's corrected bulletin lists the cataloged EPYC server and embedded families as not affected.
