Sensitive-data inference via RAPL power monitoring
Published Jul 11, 2023 · Updated Nov 27, 2024
Power side-channel exposure in AMD EPYC processors allows remote authenticated users to infer sensitive data from an AMD SEV VM. The Running Average Power Limit interface exposes power measurements that correlate with a protected guest's secret-dependent execution. Authenticated access to power reporting is required; AMD states that testing covered first-generation SEV, not SEV-ES or SEV-SNP.
