CVE-2023-20565

Local privilege escalation through insufficient SMM protections

Published Nov 14, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Privilege escalation in affected AMD Ryzen processor firmware allows local users to gain elevated privileges through SMM code. AMD states only that the SMM code has insufficient protections and does not disclose the protected operation or attacker-controlled input. Local code execution on affected hardware is required; successful exploitation crosses the SMM privilege boundary.
