Root privilege escalation via writable install objects
Published Nov 21, 2023 · Updated Aug 29, 2024
Privilege escalation in Cisco AppDynamics PHP Agent 23.4.0 and earlier allows local users to gain root privileges through the installer. The installer assigns insufficient permissions to the PHP Agent installation directory, letting a lower-privileged user modify objects that PHP later executes. Exploitation requires authenticated local access and is limited to hosts where those modified objects execute with PHP's root privileges.
