Administrator-level stored XSS via unescaped URL setting

Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Jan 14, 2025

Stored XSS in Pretty Url 1.5.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through the plugin URL setting. The settings handler saves the URL field without sanitizing it, and the settings page renders the stored value without output escaping. Administrator-level access is required, and execution occurs when a user reloads the affected settings page on multisite sites or where unfiltered_html is disabled.
