Root access via spoofed HTTP Referer
Published Jan 19, 2023 · Updated Mar 12, 2025
Authentication bypass in Cisco Small Business RV016, RV042, RV042G, and RV082 Routers allows remote attackers to gain root access. The web management interface treats the attacker-controlled HTTP Referer field as an authentication signal instead of validating a strong credential. No credentials or user interaction are required, but the crafted request must reach the device’s web-based management interface.
