Administrator-session script execution via unescaped forwarded IP
Published Apr 6, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in Automattic Limit Login Attempts 1.7.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute script in an administrator's browser. The lockout-log renderer stores a spoofable X-Forwarded-For value as an IP address and inserts it into the settings-page table without sanitizing input or escaping output. Exploitation requires nondefault reverse-proxy IP detection and lockout logging, plus an administrator viewing the log; injected script runs with that browser session's privileges.
