Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unverified password reset
Published Jun 9, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Privilege escalation in wpWax Directorist 7.5.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to take over administrator accounts. The Recover Password logic in login.php accepts a target account without validating that the requester owns it, allowing one account's password to be reset by another. Subscriber-level access and an enabled Directorist login form with password recovery are required, and successful abuse grants control of the targeted account.
