CVE-2023-1729Public exploit

Application crash via raw2image_ex heap overwrite

Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Heap-buffer overflow in LibRaw 0.21.1 allows attackers to crash an application by supplying a crafted RAW image file. raw2image_start incorrectly enables shrinking for three- and four-component image buffers, so raw2image_ex reaches a memmove that writes beyond its heap allocation. Exploitation requires an embedding application to process the file; the demonstrated consequence is process termination, not code execution.
